Project Overview
Kingcolor completed a custom POS receipt paper project for an African retail supermarket. The order covered 2,000 rolls of 80 × 80 mm POS receipt paper with single-color back printing. The customer also specified the roll configuration, core dimensions and thermal-side orientation, and required a digital artwork preview for approval before mass production. The finished receipt combined daily transaction printing with a consistent customer-facing brand presentation.

Customer Background
The customer is a retail supermarket. Its checkout counters require POS receipt paper for printing product details, prices, totals, payment information and other transaction records.
In addition to standard receipt printing, the customer wanted the paper rolls to carry its own branding and business information. Custom back printing provided a practical way to present this content without occupying the thermal side used by the POS printer.
Instead of functioning only as a transaction slip, each receipt could also reinforce the supermarket’s identity after checkout.
Project Requirements
The project required 2,000 rolls of 80 × 80 mm POS receipt paper for everyday checkout use, with single-color printing on the reverse side. Compatibility depended not only on the nominal roll size but also on the confirmed core dimensions, roll formation and thermal-side orientation.
The project focused on several key requirements:
⦁ Accurate reproduction of the approved fixed business content
⦁ Correct printing direction and repeat layout
⦁ Consistent 80 × 80 mm roll dimensions
⦁ Confirmed core dimensions and thermal-side orientation
⦁ Clear and legible single-color back printing
⦁ Customer approval of the electronic artwork preview before mass production
⦁ Proper roll formation and packing quantities
⦁ Reliable production and shipment coordination
Because the printed content represented the customer’s business, the customer asked to review an electronic preview before production. The roll construction, core, thermal-side direction, packing details and artwork all had to match the approved requirements to support a consistent, high-standard delivery.
Our Customized Solution
Kingcolor developed a customized production plan covering roll and core confirmation, thermal-side orientation, electronic proofing, back printing, converting, printer testing, inspection and export packing.
The paper was wound so that the specified thermal side faced the required direction for the customer’s POS equipment. This side remained available for variable transaction information, while the reverse side carried the approved fixed business content.
This arrangement gave the two sides of the receipt separate functions:
⦁ The thermal side records real-time transaction information.
⦁ The reverse side presents fixed supermarket branding and business details.
The finished rolls were packed at 50 rolls per carton, making the order easier to count, store and prepare for sea transportation.
Service Process
Stage 1: Requirement and Specification Confirmation
The project began with confirmation of the checkout application, 80 × 80 mm roll size, order quantity, core dimensions, thermal-side orientation, single-color back-printing requirement and packing arrangement.
The customer had clear requirements for the paper roll, paper core and thermal-side direction. These points were recorded with the printing and packing specifications so that production could follow one approved set of requirements.
Stage 2: Artwork Preparation and Approval
The back-printing layout was prepared from the fixed business content supplied for the project.
Before production, the team checked the text content, layout, printing direction and repeat interval, then prepared a digital artwork preview for the customer. Mass production was scheduled only after the customer confirmed this electronic proof.
This approval step helped prevent spelling errors, incorrect orientation and unsuitable content placement from carrying over into the finished order.
Stage 3: Printing, Converting and Quality Inspection
After the digital proof and product specifications were approved, the order entered single-color back printing, slitting and rewinding.
During production and before shipment, the finished rolls were checked for:
⦁ Roll dimensions
⦁ Back-printing clarity
⦁ Printing position and direction
⦁ Roll appearance and formation
⦁ Packing quantity
⦁ Outer-carton condition
Inspection was performed on the converted rolls rather than relying only on the artwork file. A POS printer test was also used to check paper feeding, thermal-side orientation and image output before packing.
Stage 4: Packing, Shipment and Ongoing Service
After inspection, the rolls were shrink-wrapped and packed at 50 rolls per carton. Approximately 40 cartons were prepared and stacked for sea shipment.
Kingcolor checked the carton quantities, product markings and shipment documentation before dispatch. After delivery, the team remained available to support product-use questions and any later adjustments to roll, core, winding, printing or packing requirements.
Project Delivery
The complete order consisted of 2,000 customized POS receipt paper rolls and was produced in approximately seven days after the specifications and electronic proof were approved.
The delivered product combined:
⦁ Approved 80 × 80 mm supermarket receipt-roll dimensions
⦁ Confirmed core dimensions and thermal-side orientation
⦁ Single-color back printing based on the approved electronic proof
⦁ POS printer testing for paper feeding and thermal image output
⦁ Standardized packing at 50 rolls per carton for export transportation
The project shows how a routine supermarket consumable can be customized while preserving its checkout function. Careful confirmation of the core and thermal-side direction supported equipment compatibility, while electronic proof approval controlled the printed content before mass production.
Value of Custom Back Printing for Retailers
For supermarkets, receipts are handed directly to customers after almost every completed transaction. Custom back printing allows retailers to make better use of this existing communication channel.
Depending on the approved artwork, the reverse side of POS receipt paper can be used for:
⦁ Store names and brand marks
⦁ Contact and location information
⦁ Customer-service information
⦁ Return or exchange instructions
⦁ Promotional messages
⦁ Membership information
⦁ QR codes and other fixed content
For this project, the back printing focused on approved fixed business information. Combined with the confirmed roll construction and winding direction, the finished paper was prepared for everyday checkout operation and consistent in-store presentation.
Conclusion
The supermarket project covered the complete process from roll, core and thermal-side confirmation through electronic proof approval, printing, converting, printer testing, packing and sea shipment.
By combining an approved 80 × 80 mm roll configuration with single-color back printing, Kingcolor delivered a practical solution for transaction recording and consistent supermarket presentation.
For retailers requiring customized POS receipt paper, Kingcolor can coordinate roll and core specifications, thermal-side orientation, digital proofing, back-printing options, packing configuration and export-order delivery according to the confirmed project requirements.
